Former Nigeria international, Joseph Yobo is optimistic that the Super Eagles will put up a brave performance at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia despite not having enough experienced players in the team.

The former Super Eagles captain, who stated this in a chat with SportingLife.ng during the launch of DStv Nigeria’s 2018 Fifa World Cup campaign, tagged “Connect With Greatness”, held in Lagos on Thursday, said the coach Gernot Rohr tutored side can hold their own against  Croatia, Iceland and Argentina in the group stages of the competition.

“In football games, when you get a goal or when you are leading you will have the confidence and you build on the momentum. We have a young team, the only thing they lack is that we don’t have enough experienced senior players in the team but you can’t doubt their talents.

They are a bunch of talent, they have shown what they can do and I believe they will get better. For the young ones going to the World Cup they are going to be fearless, no pressure on them. We don’t expect them to win, even though we hope. We should not put pressure on them to win. I think they have some very good players and hopefully when the tournament starts they can progress.

“Eagles should take one game at a time. We don’t go to the World Cup for fun. You dream of playing in the final but you take it one game at a time.

“Try to get a point, try to win your first game is always very crucial. You don’t want to lose your first game and start panicking. So if they can get the result in the first game, I think their confidence will be high and we are going to see more quality play from them. Every team is there to win it but my advice is to try and get out of the group first before you start thinking of next stage,” Yobo told SportingLife.ng.
