I want Iwobi to score goals–Emery

Arsenal manager, Unai Emery has charged Nigeria international, Alex Iwobi to start scoring goals, despite the energy and quality that he brings into a game.

The Spaniard spoke after Saturday’s top of the table clash against Liverpool at the Emirates which ended 1-1.

With eight minutes to end the match, Iwobi laid the pass for Alexandre Lacazette to get the equaliser after James Millner had put the Reds ahead.

Iwobi came off the bench as a replacement for Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

“We need every player. The characteristics each player has is very important and Iwobi can impact high in the match. At the beginning and when he starts on the bench.

Emery also hinted Super Eagles head coach, Gernot Rohr on the role that Iwobi would be effective ahead of Nigeria’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against South Africa on November 17.  Lately, Rohr has deployed the Arsenal in the midfield as the play-maker.

“Today I think he is better on the left. His impact on parts of the match like our goal I think is important. His energy and quality is important.

“But he can improve, he can do better. He scored against Chelsea a lot of matches ago and I want him to be nearer the box to have chances to score more. I think he can.
