Club owners vote to end NPFL 2019/20 season
Administrators of Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) clubs, under the umbrella of Club Owners Association of Nigeria have voted for the 2019/20 league season to be ended.
According to aclsports.com report, in a virtual meeting held by the group on Sunday, a vote was conducted given three options with which members could elect to pick from.
The first option was: “ending the league with the top three teams decided based on the Points Per Game (PPG) table representing the league in next season’s continental competitions.”
Seventeen clubs, including table toppers Plateau United and former African champions Enyimba voted in favour of this first option. Both teams will finish first and second respectively based on the PPG table.
The second option was: “ending the league with the top six teams based on the PPG table playing in a season-ending playoff to determine the top three teams that would represent the league in next season’s continental competitions.”
2016 league champions Rangers International were the only team that voted in favour of this option. The two remaining teams; Akwa United and Lobi Stars abstained from voting with unspecified reasons.
