Everton refuse to let attacker leave, as agent goes public with price tag

Everton winger, Bernard will push to leave the club in January after he failed to secure a move away in the recent transfer window.

The attacker, who played 30 times last season, has fallen down the pecking order under Carlo Ancelotti this season. The arrival of James Rodriguez means the 28-year-old’s game time could well be limited.

He has been on the bench in all four Premier League games to date, but has scored an assisted in two EFL Cup games.

Bernard’s agent has claimed they were looking to get the player out of Goodison in the summer, but Everton refused to let him leave.

“We tried to convince Everton to let him go, but the club wouldn’t agree even to a loan,” agent Adriano Spadoto told LaRoma24.it.

“I think we will try again in January and a definitive deal could be done for circa €7m.”

There was apparently deadline-day interest in the attacker from Roma, but Ancelotti told Bernard he was a valued member of the squad.

The Brazil international joined the club in 2018 on a free transfer from Shakhtar Donetsk.

He is under contract until June 2022, but he looks unlikely to see that out if he gets his own way.

The winger was a regular in Ancelotti’s line-ups when he took over in December.

However, he found himself dropped to the bench and was hooked at half-time in their final game before football was suspended due to the coronavirus, a 4-0 defeat to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on March 8

A report on Sport Witness claimed Bernard was ‘having difficulty’ on Merseyside and was hoping to leave the club.

Meanwhile, Sergio Romero’s wife has clarified her outburst on Tuesday after the Manchester United goalkeeper’s transfer was blocked.

Romero’s wife Eliana Guercio took to Instagram to vent her frustration at the Old Trafford club.

Romero has fallen down the pecking order with the return of Dean Henderson to the club and he was searching for a way out.

Everton are understood to have made an approach for the 33-year-old, but it’s believed United rebuffed the move.

And now Guercio has elaborated on her comments and said she is “sad” he was not given the opportunity to move clubs.

She said: “It was a very stressful day for us. I have to say that I am sad, very sad on one and happy on the other hand.”
