Adegbenro named best striker in Sweden

Samuel Adegbenro has been named Best Striker in Sweden after his 17 goals and two assists this past season, but fellow Nigeria star Akinkunmi Amoo missed out on the Young Player Award.

“I appreciate my team because without them it won’t have happened,” Adegbenro said at the awards ceremony.

“I will go back to Norrkoping to celebrate with the team and then return to Norway to be with my family.”

The award is a befitting 26th year birthday (December 3) gift for the left winger, who has made the most of his debut season in Sweden after his transfer from Norwegian club Rosenborg, where he struggled for playing time in his last season as he was deemed surplus to requirement.

He joins an elite company of fellow Nigeria stars Peter Ijeh and John Owoeri, who have previously top-scored in Sweden.

His superb form in front of goal could now attract a big transfer for him away from Swedish club IFK Norrkoping.

However, Hammarby forward Amoo, 19, could not crown an equally eventful season with the Young Player of the Year award.

That award was won by Veljko Birmancevic of champions Malmo.
