AFCON 2021: Okocha tips Super Eagles to reach final

Former Nigerian midfielder Austin Okocha said the Super Eagles have the talents to reach the final of African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cameroon.

The former captain of the Nigerian side made the disclosure, after watching the team dispatched Guinea-Bissau in the final Group game on Wednesday.

Coach Austin Eguavoen made eight changes to his starting 11 and they managed to grind out a 2-0 victory over the Wild Dogs at the Roumde Adjia Stadium in Garoua.

Almeria forward Sadiq Umar opened the scoring, before assistant captain William Troost-Ekong sealed the victory late in the game.

Reacting to the result, Okocha said: “I am really impressed with the general performance of the Super Eagles against Guinea-Bissau despite playing the second team,” Okocha, a former Super Eagles player told Supersport.

“This shows that Eguavoen is blessed with an array of talents that are capable of reaching the final if well utilized,” the 1994 African Cup of Nations winning midfielder said.

Nigeria finished as Group D winners with maximum nine points from three games.
