AFCON 2023: Not yet sealed and delivered for Eagles

After a below par performance at the MKO Abiola Stadium Abuja that ended in a lone goal defeat , the Eagles bounced back in the second leg in Guinea Bissau to win by the same margin.

The Second leg no doubt saw a better team ready to move and ready to seek victory. The effort paid of with the penalty converted by Moses Simon in the 30th minute.

Although Eagles returned to the top of the group with nine points in the kitty their qualification can only be confirmed after the last batch of matches against Sierra Leone and Sao Tome in June and September respectively.

Twenty four teams will battle in Cote d Ivoire in the 34th edition of the Nations Cup in January next year. As it stands only six countries have booked their place even with last batch of matches to spare.

These are Algeria, Morocco, South Africa, Tunisia, Burkina Faso and African champions, Senegal. They join hosts Cote d’ Ivoire with spots guaranteed.

Hopefully Jose Peseiro and his team will seal up victory with less stress and better display, and after complaining about Abuja stadium pitch it is also hoped that the matches left will be played on a better pitch and even the Nest of Champions in Uyo among other alternatives may not be a bad idea.
