AFCON: Eguavoen challenges Sadiq to play along with the team

Super Eagles head coach Augustine Eguavoen has challenged AD America of Spain striker Umar Sadiq to put team interest above his personal target as the team prepares to face Tunisia today in the Africa Cup of Nations AFCON round of 16 in Garoua.

Eguavoen revealed at the press conference that he held a personal talk with the young lad on Friday, insisting that he has confidence in him.

“I held a personal discussion with him and I have confidence in him. He has been scoring goals in his club. We know this is a national team and he should try to assist before trying to score. He is an integral part of this team and we have confidence in him. Whenever he is brought up he is always doing well.

“He is still young and we should understand that. He told me that as a striker the first thing in his mind is to score goals. Yeah, that is normal as a striker but we have to play together as a team. If you have a chance to score, score but if you don’t have a chance to score just pass the ball to the nearest person and I told him not to let what people are talking about him worry him,” Eguavoen said.
