AFCON qualifier: Eagles coach Peseiro singing redemption song against Guinea Bissau

Super Eagles head coach, Jose Peseiro has declared war against Guinea Bissau in their Match-day 4 of the 2023 African Nations Cup qualifier taking place in Bissau.

Guinea-Bissau shocked Super Eagles with a 0-1 win on Match-day 3 in Abuja on Friday. The win helped them to leapfrog to the top of the group A table with 7 points while the three times African champions garnered 6 points.

Peseiro in a pre-match conference in Bissau ahead of the game insisted that the Super Eagles played better in the first leg and have quality players that can do the damage for him in the return leg today.

He said, “We came here to defend our country and beat Guinea, they are in the first position but I want to catch them in that position. It’s going to be a different match.

“We have the quality to finish better, I can’t speak about the pitch, my players need to concentrate more. We have the quality to beat Guinea tomorrow, I have spoken to the players.

“When I saw the video again, I discovered that we have a very good game but we lost many scoring chances on Friday.

“We need to repeat the same play for our game tomorrow and we need to score because it’s not normal to be missing goals just like it happened in the first game.

Skipper, Ahmed Musa stated that the Guineans were lucky to get away with the win in Abuja, he added that the players will leave no unturned in making sure that they revenge by winning the game today.

“In our meeting, we also addressed that issue, obviously, Guinea-Bissau was lucky to come out victorious against us because of possession wise we dominated the game and we missed a lot of scoring chances.

“Tomorrow we are not here to play a draw or something, we are here to win and we are fighting for everything.” He concluded.

Third placed Sierra Leone have five points with a win over Sao Tome and Principe on Sunday, this mounted more pressure on second placed Nigeria. The top two in the group will qualify for the CAF 2023 African Nations Cup in Cote d’Ivoire.
