AFCON qualifiers: Osimhen, Chukwueze join Super Eagles squad

Nigeria’s Super Eagles 22-man squad for this month’s AFCON qualifiers is now complete following today’s arrival of Victor Osimhen and Samuel Chukwueze to their training camp in Lagos.

Osimhen’s availability was in serious doubt after he cropped a shoulder injury on Super Eagles duty in November with Napoli officials faulting Eagles doctors for worsening the injury.

An injury that kept the former Golden Eaglets forward on the sidelines for 93 days.

On the other hand, Chukwueze was also another doubt for the AFCON qualifiers against Benin and Lesotho after Spanish clubs refused releasing compatriots Kenneth Omeruo and Sadiq Umar due to travel restrictions occasioned by the Covid Pandemic.

Interestingly, the Gernot Rohr tutored-side will train in Lagos till Thursday, when they depart for neighbouring Benin Republic.

Nigeria will tackle Benin on Saturday before they returning to Lagos to face Lesotho on Tuesday, at the Teslim Balogun stadium.

A draw from the two games will guarantee Nigeria passage to the 2022 AFCON to be staged by Cameroon in January.
