AFCON: Rajevac still believes in stuttering Ghana’s qualification
Ghana coach, Milovan Rajevac, believes the Black Stars can still advance to the AFCON 2021 last 16 with one match left to play despite suffering two successive setbacks in Group C.
The four-time champions on Friday squandered a one-nil halftime lead to draw 1-1 with Gabon in their penultimate Group C match in a match Andre Ayew put Ghana ahead in the 19th minute with a breathtaking strike.
But 52nd-minute substitute Jim Allevinah lived up to the super-sub tag with an 88th-minute equaliser to deny Ghana their first win at AFCON 2021.
“It was a difficult and competitive game. We were supposed to end the match winning, but as in the first game we lost concentration,” Rajevac said during the post-match briefing.

The result came five days after Ghana suffered an opening day setback when Morocco beat them 1-0.
Morocco have qualified from Group C with a match to spare on maximum 6 points after beating bottom of the log Comoros 2-0 in the early kickoff on Friday.
Gabon are second on 4 points while Ghana are third with just a point.
The Black Stars must now record an emphatic win over Comoros on January 18 and thereafter pray to likely qualify as one of the best four, third placed sides.
“I think in the next game we will do better and we will be able to collect the three points to move on to the next stage. We need to stay focused and be strong-minded to move on,” Rajevac said.
