AFCON U-20: Flying Eagles boss Bosso laments over semi-final loss to Gambia

Coach Ladan Bosso has said the Flying Eagles were naïve and ought not to have lost to Gambia in the semifinal of the 2023 U20 AFCON.

Gambia recorded a famous 1-0 victory over Nigeria at the Cairo International Stadium Monday night to reach their first-ever U20 AFCON Final, where they will clash with neigbours Senegal.

A seventh minute lapse in concentration by the Flying Eagles defence let in Adama Bojang to drill home the match winner.

“We lost stupidly, we were naïve from the start,” lamented a very disappointed Bosso.

“We failed to take our chances and we also missed a penalty in the 86th minute.

“I am frustrated because we had the team to go all the way.

“Football is cruel.

“We didn’t measure up.”

Nigeria will now take on Tunisia Friday in a third-place match.

All four semifinalists have qualified for the 2023 FIFA U20 World Cup to be hosted by Indonesia in May.
