Enyimba’s African Football League debut thrills Pascal Eze

Pascal Eze sees the prospect of participating in the inaugural edition of the African Football League as ‘historic’, and deems the competition an opportunity to write his name in gold.

Eze is expected to be available for selection when Enyimba begin their campaign in Africa’s brand-new flagship club competition on October 22.

The People’s Elephant are one of only eight clubs selected by CAF to participate in the brand-new flagship competition of African Clubs, and Eze, who was a stalwart in Finidi George’s title-winning team last term is ready to embrace the challenge.

“The African Football League is a first of its kind and I’m happy to be a part of it. This is a wonderful time to play for Enyimba and I am happy that I will be part of those making history for this club by playing in this competition.

“We know that it is now on us to make our fans proud because we know that they will come out to support us. We cannot afford to let them down.”

Eze missed the Champions League tie against Al Ahli Benghazi with a thigh injury, but the bullish defender has returned to full training and now recounts his frustration at his unavailability for those games.

“To be honest it wasn’t easy for me because the Champions League is something I always prayed to play. Seeing myself out of the game was not easy but I had to be strong because it was an injury and injuries are part of the game .

“But the most important thing now is that I am strong and healthy, concentrating on the tasks ahead. Right now we have a lot of competitions ahead. The African Football League is there and the NPFL is there as well. We have to defend the league so we really have to work very hard at this point so that we don’t disappoint our fans.”
