AfroBasketWomen: D’Tigress squad member identifies team’s weakness

After Nigeria’s D’Tigress secured a quarter-finals spot at the #AfroBasketWomen Championship, Amy Okonkwo has spoken about the missing ingredient that could raise Nigeria’s D’Tigress chances of clinching a fourth straight title.

The D’Tigress smashed pass the Egyptian counterparts in the final group D game at the weekend.

However, Okonkwo revealed the team demanded more from itself because they could have won by a bigger margin and build momentum.

Nigeria edged Egypt 83-65 for a 2-0 record in the group stages, but Okonkwo insists D’Tigress can do even better.

“Everything the coach says motivates us. We came for the win, and we knew we’d had a target painted on our backs.

“We have a standard that we play to and we’ve been trying to establish a new standard with the new coach. We stepped on the court for each other and we’re ready to play for each other and for the country,” she continued.

“I think we can improve on our turnovers. We have had way too many. We also need to improve on our shooting but I think we should continue to instil confidence in our shooters so they can improve too.”
