Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) 1st VP Barrister Seyi Akinwunmi has dispelled rumours of an imaginary crisis within the rank and file of the federation , adding all hands are on deck to ensure the Super Eagles perform well in their next two matches at the FIFA World Cup Russia 2008.
Following last Saturday’s defeat to Croatia, there have been pocket of reports that NFF board members are not on the same page especially with its forthcoming election in view.
“ The truth is that there is no crisis within the board of the NFF,” maintained Akinwunmi who doubles as Head of Delegation to Russia 2018 at a media conference on Tuesday at Park Inn By Radisson Pribaltiyskaya in Saint Petersburg.“ As you would expect in a family, there may be issues but the good thing is that we iron them out and we bond together as a family.
“ Even on Monday, we all came together and watched the matches together at our hotel; there is no crisis. I don’t want to think some section of the media derives joy in reporting about crisis just because e it sells.”
Speaking further, Akinwunmi said the NFF was focussed on its primary assignment at Russia 2018 and reitreated the federation’s commitment towards Super Eagles’ success.
He said: “ We are the NFF and not the Russia Football Federation and the issue of elections is not something we are concerned with at this World Cup; I’m surprised to hear that some persons are already campaigning but to who? I’m going to be part of those who are going to vote at the elections but nobody has campaigned to me here.
“ Personally, I think this issue of elections in a World Cup year does not augur well for our football; but as I said, our focus is to ensure Super Eagles success in Russia and not about elections at all,” noted Akinwunmi.
