Akpeyi ready for comeback as Uzoho fails to inspire Super Eagles

Moroka Swallows shot-stopper Daniel Akpeyi is ready to stage a comeback to help Nigeria’s Super Eagles put an end to goalkeeping issues.

The pair of Francis Uzoho and Maduka Okoye have failed to inspire confidence in recent games for the three-time African champions.

As a result, there have been persistent calls for Portuguese boss, Jose Peseiro to drop both from the squad.

Akpeyi, who has been in fantastic form for Swallows in South Africa’s DStv Premiership this campaign, is keen to stage a return to the team.

“I think I’m better than yesterday. Today is better than yesterday. It’s just that (I’m) waiting for the opportunity, “the goalie told reporters ahead of Swallows’ clash with his former club, Kaizer Chiefs.

The 37-year-old Akpeyi was part of Nigeria’s squad to the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

At the last count, the former Warri Wolves’ goalkeeper has made 18 appearances for Nigeria’s Super Eagles.
