Iwobi starts Wenger’s farewell in style

Arsene Wenger’s long farewell to Arsenal started with a 4-1 Premier League win over West Ham as the Emirates Stadium faithful finally united behind the veteran manager.

Nigerian star Alex Iwobi was in action for 70 minutes at the Emirates as the team gives Wenger, who has served the club for 22 years their best shot ahead of his departure at the end of the season.

Iwobi who recorded his 22nd Premier League appearance for EPL club was replaced by Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Seven minutes into the action the Super Eagle forward was close to secure the first goal of the match from rising highest in the box to meet a corner delivery but was thwarted by West Ham defender, Angelo Ogbonna.

Arsene Wenger’s side record the breakthrough six minutes into the second half when a Granit Xhaka’s cross fell to Nacho Monreal in the opposition’s area which the Spanish defender duly volleyed home to get the first goal.

Though Marko Arnautovic drew level for the visitors after 64 minutes following good work from Manuel Lanzini but they ran out luck as Arsenal responded with two goals in the space of four minutes to restore the lead.

First, Aaron Ramsey restored the advantage in the 82nd minute by virtue of a poor Hammers defending before Alexandre Lacazette’s late double capped off a resilient afternoon showing from the Gunners.
