David Luiz believes that Mikel Arteta is set to become one of the best coaches in the world, and the new Arsenal manager is already vindicating the faith.
Arsenal have not won either of Mikel Arteta‘s first two matches. Away at Bournemouth, they only scrounged a 1-1 draw and at home to Chelsea, they dropped a 1-0 lead to fall 2-1. Both results are riding on the backs of some seriously hard luck, with the Chelsea match taking the hard luck cake, but through it all, most aren’t losing the plot—Mikel Arteta’s changes are coming through.
David Luiz, who has had his fair share of class managers, spoke up after the Chelsea match to say that Arteta is going to be one of the best coaches in the world. And it’s hard to question that.
After all, you have to look at the performance, not the results. Up until Arteta took over, the Gunners were a lethargic bunch, mired in a lack of confidence, without any sort of direction or belief. Freddie Ljungberg didn’t fix that.
In just two matches, we’ve seen Arteta completely fix Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Mesut Ozil and Granit Xhaka.
Xhaka was tremendous against Bournemouth for the first time in awhile, he showed everything that we needed to see to the point that his exit is dreaded.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang defended so well against Chelsea that he earned man of the match for that work load, not for the goal. Just when you thought he was going to leave in January as well, he’s completely flipped the switch.
And Ozil, the man who’s been lost for years, has been as reliable as can be. And against a varying level of opposition too, bizarrely enough. He’s looked brand new. All three have looked brand new. Truly remarkable.
As a team, they have defended better and more cohesively, they’ve had more of a midfield presence and they’re actually creating chances. All of these things were major lapses in the Gunners up until Arteta took over.

Just two matches—and not even two good matches—and we can see that Arteta is absolutely on track to become one of the best coaches in the world. How could he not at this point? He’s maximizing resources, he’s building youth, he’s doing so much in so little time.
