Arteta applauds the fans hails team character and composure

Mikel Arteta has praised the “character and composure” of his Arsenal players after their 2-0 win against a “tough” Leicester City side.

Emile Smith Rowe and Gabriel were on target in the first half as the Gunners continued their resurgence in the Premier League.

Arteta’s men weathered the second-half storm from the Foxes but were able to hold on thanks to an inspired Aaron Ramsdale performance.

On the win, the Spanish manager told BBC Sport: “We defended the box really well in certain moments. There were spaces we didn’t control too well today but I really liked the character and composure of the team to realise that is happening and change the dynamics as well.

“Well some phases of the game probably yes because of the opponent and to come here is tough.

“I’m pleased with the way that we played and the courage we showed to be dominant. We had to suffer as well but then we were able to change the game and could have scored the third one.”

Arsenal lost their opening three league encounters this season but are unbeaten since the 5-0 loss against Man City in August.

On how his team have improved from their poor start, Arteta said: “Those games are part of our season and part of who we are as a team. We should not forget that. All the time we must have the mentality to improve.”
