Arteta eyeing Celtic striker

Arsenal are reportedly considering a summer transfer move for Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard as Mikel Arteta looks to bolster his frontline amid fears Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang could leave.

The Gunners have had few issues upfront this season, with the former Borussia Dortmund striker providing an abundance of firepower and leading their scoring charts, with only Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy netting more Premier League goals.

However, the Gabon forward is out of contract next year – when he would be free to leave for nothing – and Arsenal chiefs are prepared to cash in now rather than risk losing him for nothing.

The 22-year-old, who previously played for French giants Paris Saint-Germain before moving to Scotland, has also laid on 12 assists.

. Arsenal are not the only Premier League club taking a look at Edouard, with Leicester and Everton also interested in a player who would command a fee of around £30million. Arsenal may need a new striker if Aubameyang is sold this summer.

Edouard was asked about his future last month, saying: ‘I don’t know when that [leaving Celtic] will happen. I live day to day and I enjoy my life. We will see in time. ‘Today I’m at Celtic, I have two years left on my contract, I’m very happy here and I enjoy myself.

‘For now, there’s still two years on my contract, and I am more focused on the five months that we have left for the rest of this season and the two titles we are competing for. And then we’ll see what happens after.’
