Ashley Young set to stay at Old Trafford

Manchester United full-back, Ashley Young, looks set to stay at Old Trafford with Inter Milan close to signing Roma star Leonardo Spinazzola.

SunSport reported yesterday how the 34-year-old’s proposed move to the San Siro was in doubt, with the Nerazzurri swapping winger Matteo Politano for fullback Spinazzola.

The deal is a straight swap with no fee involved, with Roma looking to replace the injured Nicolo Zaniolo, and Inter desperate to add a left wing-back to their squad.

Antonio Conte had been in talks to sign Young this month as he looked to bolster up his defence.

Young – who has featured in 12 Premier League games this season – is out of contract in the summer and is free to talk to foreign clubs.

The Red Devils had offered the former Aston Villa ace a new one-year deal, but the England international snubbed it as he looked to join Inter, resulting in him being left out of the squad that beat Norwich.

And it now appears that Young will be remaining at the Theatre of Dreams until the end of the campaign at least.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer recently stated that Young is still a crucial part of his side as he commented on his future at United.

He said: “Ashley’s one of our players, he’s our captain. There’s loads of speculation and we’ve just got to handle that. We’re getting used to that in this club.

“Ashley’s been very professional and focused, so I don’t think that’s going to change.

“It’s a discussion that I and Ash will have if something comes up. For us, we haven’t got too many players fit and ready, so we need the ones we have.

“Ash has been very, very good for this club and he’s been a very good captain this season. Let’s see where we are in June. And we can see where we are in February as well.”
