Aston Villa 2: 0 Everton: Iwobi fails to hit target, plays for 29 mins

Super Eagles’ star, Alex Iwobi had a debut he would want to forget in a hurry for Everton as his new club were beaten 2-0 by Aston Villa in an English Premier League tie played tonight at the Villa Park.

Iwobi fails to hit target
Iwobi was close to scoring for Everton against Villa

The Nigeria international who was signed by the Toffees on deadline day missed out of the team’s previous games against Crystal Palace and was on the bench against Watford last weekend with manager Marco Silva citing fitness concerns as reasons.
But the Portuguese coach handed Iwobi his debut in the 61st minute with the former Arsenal winger replacing Gylfi Sigurdsson to try and salvage the game for Everton who was trailing 1-0 at the time.
Barely 20 minutes after coming on, Iwobi made an impact and almost grabbed his first goal for Everton when he fired a shot that hit the post to the disappointment of the Toffees fans.
Earlier in the 22nd minute, Aston Villa’s beastly Brazilian silenced the critics to get his Villa career up and running with a well-taken goal against top-six hopefuls Everton.
Wesley, a £22million club-record signing, found the net brilliantly after debutant Jota – a close friend of Wesley’s – sliced open the Toffees backline with a delicate through-ball with the big striker making no mistake from inside the box after 22 minutes.
Villa grabbed the second goal almost near the final whistle after substitute Anwar El Ghazi sent the Holte End into a state of raptures, skinning Andre Gomes before slipping one past Jordan Pickford.
The result is a huge one for manager Dean Smith but, more so for his striker Wesley. He’ll be fancying his chances now after smashing one past such a mean defence.
