Aston Villa secures Kortney with new contract

Kortney Hause is about to sign a new contract with Aston Villa as boss Steven Gerrard looks to bolster his defensive options.

The centre-back’s current contract was set to expire at the end of the season and earlier this month he had sparked interest from other Premier League clubs.

Hause took part in the second half of Villa’s clash with Manchester United after an injury to Ezri Konsa last weekend, helping Villa fight back to claim a 2-2 draw from 2-0 behind with less than 15 minutes to go .

The 26-year-old joined Villa van Wolves on loan in January 2019, before making the final move the following summer after being promoted to the Premier League.

Although he has not been a regular in the first team, Hause has regularly provided backup for Konsa and Tyrone Mings, scoring the only goal when Villa won 1-0 at Manchester United last September – their first win over Old Trafford in 12 years.

Gerrard said last week that he would prefer to have four centre-backs in his roster and after the loss of Axel Tuanzebe, who returned to United before being loaned to Napoli, the former England captain is keen this month add another central defender.
