The windows of the Lyon bus were left shattered, and Grosso, who had taken the job on just over a month earlier, was struck by a fragmented shard of glass.

Grosso required several stitches upon arrival at the stadium and was left with a nasty scar. The game between Marseille and Lyon was later called off.

Nine Marseille supporters were arrested as a result of the unsavoury scenes in the build-up to October’s postponed fixture.

On Thursday, a 22-year-old man was sentenced to four months in prison after being caught on CCTV throwing stones at the Lyon bus. The court was unable to determine whether the object he threw caused the windows to shatter according to information from L’Equipe.
