Barca agree €55m deal to sign Man City’s Ferran Torres

Manchester City have reportedly reached an agreement with Barcelona to sell Spanish forward Ferran Torres.

The 21-year-old has been strongly linked with a move to the Catalan giants in recent weeks, with head coach Xavi identifying the Citizens star as one of his primary targets ahead of the January transfer window.

According to BBC Sport, Barcelona have agreed to pay an initial €55m (£46.7m) upfront, with a further €10m (£8.5m) in add-ons.

The report adds that Barca are able to afford the transfer despite their financial concerns, due to a recent bank loan taken out by the club’s hierarchy.

Torres is understood to have told City manager Pep Guardiola of his desire to swap the Etihad Stadium for Camp Nou and return to his homeland, just 18 months after moving to Manchester from Valencia for around £20m.

The forward believes he has a stronger chance of receiving regular first-team football at Barcelona, while the Citizens are prepared to let him leave as they already have a wealth of attacking options among their ranks.

Torres, who is currently suffering with a fractured foot, has made 43 appearances across all competitions for City, scoring 16 goals and providing four assists.
