Barcelona fear Marc-Andre ter Stegen may need surgery

Barcelona are reportedly concerned that goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen may require surgery on his current back issue.

The Germany international has missed Barcelona’s last three games because of the injury which also forced him out of international duty.

Mundo Deportivo and Sport are reporting that Ter Stegen will undergo more tests on Monday and that surgery is an option, although Barca would rather avoid that option if possible.

Xavi also hinted that Ter Stegen’s back problem is becoming a real concern when he spoke about his stopper this weekend.

“Marc has some discomfort in his back and we are going to see this week how things are, anything we have to announce we will say,” he told reporters.

“He has this discomfort that we can’t quite clean up. Let’s see.”

Obviously Barcelona won’t want to lose such a key player as Ter Stegen but they do have a great back-up in Inaki Pena. The stopper was impressive in midweek against Porto and shone again in Sunday’s win over Atletico.
