In a letter sent to our correspondent by FIFA, it appreciated the pains journalists have been going through on a daily basis to carry out their jobs under the restricted atmosphere.

The letter read thus: “We hope this letter finds you, your families and friends healthy and well.

“These are difficult and unprecedented times for many of us. The impact of COVID-19 has been felt around the world and has had a significant effect on the way we go about our daily lives and work.

“Sports are an important part of our society, and the consequences of the pandemic on football have been significant and far-reaching. At FIFA, we are conscious that the outbreak of the coronavirus has and continues to be difficult for many journalists, particularly those working in sports media.

“With football being postponed worldwide as a result of the current pandemic, many news titles and outlets continue to adapt their programming and operations to the current reality. At the same time, many journalists and correspondents also continue to report from the front line, providing essential news reports and updates – including those from FIFA and other stakeholders across football – to inform fans and the wider general public.

“Recognising this, we wanted to take a moment to acknowledge the important and invaluable role that media is playing at this unprecedented time, as well as express our commitment to ensuring that FIFA maintains a high level of service to sports media around the world.

“The FIFA Media Department is also adapting to the realities of remote working, therefore, please understand that on occasion, we may be unable to get back to your inquiries as fast as we would like, but please don’t hesitate to contact us via the usual channels.

“We will continue to share on important FIFA matters affecting football both on and off the pitch while continuing to look at new and creative ways to support you in the way you report and cover football to a global audience in the future.

“In the meantime, please stay healthy and safe.
