BATTLE OF ALEXANDRIA:We played better in the second half–Rohr

Super Eagles head coach Gernot Rohr reckons his team played better in the second half while hailing his players for overcoming their opponents in Saturday’s Africa Cup of Nations Round of 16 clash at the Alexandria Stadium.

Nigeria edged out the defending champions 3-2 in a tightly contested encounter which saw them cruise into the quarter finals.

“We didn’t want to lose the match especially after the Madagascar match. We tried to control from the beginning, yet we lost focus in some periods of the game. We were better in the second half,” said Rohr after the match.

Odion Ighalo put Nigeria ahead in the 19th minute while Stephane Bahoken equalised for Cameroon in the 41st minute and took the lead through Clinton N’Jie put the Indomitable Lions two minutes later.

The Eagles however fought their in the second half with Ighalo and Alex Iwobi scoring in a space of three minutes.

Nigeria would now face South Africa who stunned host nation, Egypt by a lone goal in the second Round of 16 this evening.
