Bayelsa United rule out exit of top stars after AITEO Cup success

Bayelsa United assistant coach Merimu Okara remains confident that the Nigeria National League (NNL) side will improve and get better next season.

Bayelsa United stunned the football world by winning 2021 Aiteo Federation Cup despite playing in the second tier.

The team defeated Premier League giants Rivers United in the semi-final, before beating Nasarawa United 4-3 on penalties to become the first team from the second division to lift the prestigious Cup since Dolphins FC’s feat 20 years ago.

Speaking to the media on performance of the players, Merimu Okara said they aren’t even at their peak yet and remains confident they will get better next year.

The highly rated tactician added that the club will do everything in their power to keep the players together beyond this season.

“The very important thing about is continuity. More than half of the team came in at the beginning of the campaign and surprisingly they blended quickly to the system of the team.

“We are I’m confident, they will be much better next season, because the understanding and coordination will improve.

“So by keeping them together, they will surely get better, ” he concluded.
