Bayern Munich signify interest in Sadio Mane

Bayern Munich want to sign Sadio Mane this summer after holding talks with his agent following ‘difficult’ negotiations between the striker and Liverpool over a new deal, according to a source in Germany.

Mane’s agent Bjorn Bezemer has reportedly  spoken to Bayern sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic about the Senegalese striker joining  the Bundesliga giants.

The prolific 30-year-old is out of contract in 2023 and is said to have run into roadblocks with Premier League contenders over extending his stay at Anfield.

Bayern boss Julian Nagelsmann has guided his team to the Bundesliga title in his first season in charge.

Though both clubs have not sat to discuss the AFCON champion who has scored 118 goals in 265 appearances for Liverpool the meeting by his agent and sporting director is seen as an indication that the needful is about to to be done.

Speaking after Bayern’s 2-2 Bundesliga draw at home to Stuttgart on Sunday, Salihamidzic claimed journalists would be ‘surprised’ by the big signing the 2020 Champions League winners are targeting.

Salihamidzic added: ‘We have to see what is possible and what is not. We have creative ideas.

Mane is said to be looking to triple his current reported salary at Liverpool of around £100,000 a week after winning the Champions League, Premier League and Carabao Cup among a host of trophies since joining from Southampton in 2016. .

Only his teammate Mohamed Salah and Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang matched his 22 Premier League goals when they shared the Golden Boot at the end of the 2018/19 season.

Mane scored in both games as Liverpool edged out Unai Emery’s side in the semi-finals, setting up Champions league final clash with Real Madrid on 28 May.
