Defenseman Steven Beitashour retired Wednesday after 289 matches across 14 seasons with five MLS clubs.

The 36-year-old fullback won the 2017 MLS Cup with Toronto FC and went to the 2014 World Cup with Iran.

He finished his career with five goals and 40 assists for the San Jose Earthquakes (2010-13), Vancouver Whitecaps (2014-15), Toronto FC (2016-17), Los Angeles FC (2018-19) and Colorado Rapids (2020-23).

“This journey has been nothing short of extraordinary, and I leave the soccer field with a heart full of memories, lessons learned, and gratitude,” Beitashour posted on social media.

“While this chapter comes to an end, a new one begins, and I look forward to contributing to the beautiful game in many different ways. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart. I am forever grateful.”

He made the 2012 MLS All-Star team with San Jose and won Supporters’ Shields with the Quakes (2012), Toronto (2017) and LAFC (2019).
