Bendel Insurance disarm Rangers to win FA Cup

Bendel Insurance will represent Nigeria in the CAF Confederation Cup after they edged past rivals Enugu Rangers 1-0 to win this year’s Nigeria FA Cup Wednesday.

Rivers United, who finished third in the Nigeria league, will be the other club to fly the country’s flag in the Confederation Cup.

A goal from the penalty spot by Imade Osarenkhoe in first-half stoppage time proved to be the difference between two of Nigeria’s traditional clubs at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba.

It was a deserved cup triumph for Insurance who only regained their place in the Nigerian top league this past season. The victory guarantees the Benin Arsenals prize money of N15million.

Insurance also beat Rangers 3-0 when both teams clashed in the 1978 edition of the Cup final. The victory could best be described as a jinx breaker as it is the Benin based side’s major trophy in 43 years.
