Benitez: I enjoy improving players

Everton boss Rafa Benitez has said ‘coaching is a major part’ of his approach.

Benitez says he enjoys being on the training pitch.

“People sometimes think the manager is there,” he told the Liverpool Echo, pointing to a seat, “…but I was training, I coach the team every day and I coach the players individually and I try to learn as much as I can about them, to improve them as much as I can.

“So if you improve individuals you improve the team, and with experience and motivation and commitment from the players you can improve more.

“If the players see you care about them and you can improve them they are happy. And I am happy with that.

“We had Raul at the Academy at Real Madrid. How do you improve Raul? Or another striker we had called Dani? We can always improve them just a little bit.

“Take Demarai Gray for example, I was telling him to just go with his left foot more, and to see him scoring with his left foot when he was not using it too much was really pleasing for me to see that.”
