Bianca Andreescu crashes out of Chicago Classic

Shelby Rogers is into the third round of the Chicago Fall Tennis Classic after beating world number 20 and former US Open champion Bianca Andreescu in straight sets 6-4, 7-5 in one hour and 53 minutes.

The first set stayed on serve until 3-2 when it was the world number 43 with the first chance in the match to break and she did just that. That one break of serve was enough for her to serve out the first set.

The second set was a bit more competitive again with the American getting the early break and jumped out to a 3-1 lead but the Toronto native responded when Rogers served for the match and broke to level the set at five games apiece.

The next game was a pretty long one but the Americans resilience paid off and she broke one last time and served out the match.

Shelby will next face the Japanese qualifier Mai Hontoma who took advantage of a walkover against Anett Kontaveit who pulled out the match due to a left thigh injury.

“I am sad to have to withdraw from my match today but I need to listen to my body this late in the season. Thank you to the tournament for hosting us, and I wish them and the players luck the rest of the week.” Kontaveit said in a statement.
