Birmingham and QPR share Championship stalemate

John Ruddy and Asmir Begovic produced a series of superb saves as Birmingham and QPR shared a goalless draw in the Championship on Friday.

QPR keeper Begovic and Birmingham stopper Ruddy are both in the twilight of their careers at age 36.

But they showed why they were once Premier League players with highlight reel saves throughout a game that was more entertaining that the blank scoreline suggested.

QPR forced the first save at St Andrew’s when Paul Smyth cut in on his left foot and his shot from just inside the area was pushed away by Ruddy.

Birmingham responded when Cody Drameh’s cross-shot was shovelled away at the near post by Begovic.

Krystian Bielik produced a snapshot kept out by a stunning one-handed save by Begovic at full stretch.

Sam Field’s close-range effort was palmed away by Ruddy as QPR threatened to snatch a second half winner.

And Ruddy produced the save of the evening when he tipped away Lyndon Dykes’ downward header from Albert Adomah’s cross.
