Bundesliga: Haaland nets first goal since restart

It took Erling Haaland 28 minutes to remind people of his goalscoring qualities as he gave Borussia Dortmund a 1-0 lead at home to Schalke, thus becoming the first player to score since the Bundesliga got back underway following the coronavirus-enforced stoppage of football.

Interestingly, the player who provided the assist for the 19-year-old was Thorgan Hazard. Could Haaland be linking up with his older brother from next season?

Haaland missed his first shot but not the second, as he netted his 10th Bundesliga goal in nine matches since joining from Red Bull Salzburg in January.

Those 10 goals have come in 540 minutes, so the Norwegian is averaging a goal every 54 minutes!

Dortmund (Germany), 16/05/2020.- Dortmund’s Erling Haaland scores the opening goal during the German Bundesliga soccer match between Borussia Dortmund and Schalke 04 in Dortmund.

As he and his teammates adhered to the Bundesliga’s protocol, there was no hugging during the celebration, but Haaland was able to perform a dance with Achraf Hakimi, another potential teammate in Madrid next season.

Just before the half-time break, a poor clearance by Schalke goalkeeper Markus Schuberg allowed Dortmund to regain possession in their opponents’ half and they quickly punished them, with Julian Brandt setting up Raphael Guerreiro to score past the 21-year-old.
