Relatives, including his fiancée Sasha Attwood, were forced to run and hide  after being alerted by barking dogs and noises upstairs; the thieves made off with a reported £1m of jewellery.

It’s the latest in a line of raids targeting high-profile footballers such as Kurt Zouma, Raheem Sterling, Paul Pogba and Victor Lindelof  and more often than not, thieves are waiting for their marks to be away from home before they strike.

Players are reported to be spending thousands on ex-SAS officers, guard dogs and panic rooms in order to protect themselves and their loved ones from criminals who are targeting high-end watches and bling in smash-and-grab raids.

Sources told the Sun that the burglars at Grealish’s seven-bed mansion were creeping about upstairs while his family sat downstairs cheering him on during Wednesday night’s televised match.

One said: ‘The family are really shaken. The gang took a lot of watches and jewellery.

‘They executed their raid when Manchester City were playing live on TV and all his family had gathered downstairs to cheer him on.

‘No one was injured but there was a lot of panic. Everyone was terrified as they were all so vulnerable.’

Grealish played the full 90 minutes on Wednesday but was then seen running down the tunnel immediately after the full-time whistle, reports Mail Sport’s Jack Gaughan.

A spokesperson for Cheshire Police told the Sun: ‘At around 9.50pm on Wednesday December 27 police were called to reports of a burglary. The caller reported that a number of items had been stolen.

‘Officers supported by police dogs and National Police Air Service were deployed and searches were conducted in the local area but there was no trace of the suspects. No arrests have been made at this time and enquiries are ongoing.’

The raid on Grealish’s home comes less than two weeks after his captain, midfielder Kevin De Bruyne, was targeted by thieves in his native Belgium.
