C/Palace moves to edge out suitors to keep David Obou

Crystal Palace are ready to fend off Bayern Munich and PSV Eindhoven to retain one of their brightest prospects from the academy, David Obou.

Palace have agreed terms of a three-year professional contract for teenage attacking midfielder Obou, which will start when he turns 17 in November.

Securing Obou’s future will be a boost for Palace but a setback for his suitors, including two clubs with a track record of persuading exciting young talent to leave England.

Palace not ready to let go of David Obou

Bayern tempted midfielder Jamal Musiala to join them from Chelsea in 2019, when the midfielder was 16, and has seen him quickly establish himself in their first team and become a well-rounded German international.

PSV’s decision to sign former Palace youngster Noni Madueke from Tottenham in 2018, when the winger was also 16, proved equally successful.

The skilled Obou, who can play on the wing as well as in the middle, has already played and scored for Palace’s under-18s after breaking into the older group this season.

He is also set to engage in a tug-of-war internationally, having been invited to represent England while gaining interest from France.
