CAF splashes $50,000 on Enyimba, Remo and Insurance

Continent’s soccer governing body, Confederation of African Football (CAF) will, dole out a massive pay cheque of $50,000 each to NPFL’s trio of Enyimba, Remo Stars, and Bendel Insurance as participation fee in continental competitions this campaign.

The Patrice Motsepe-led CAF set aside the money for the clubs already eliminated from the competition this season.

NPFL champions Enyimba and Remo Stars participated in the CAF Champions League, while Bendel Insurance campaigned for honours in the CAF Confederation Cup.

Interestingly, Enyimba were shown the exit doors in the first preliminary round 4-3 on aggregate by Al-Ahly Benghazi while Remo Stars were sent parking via a 3-2 loss on penalties by Ghana’s Champions Medeama.

On the other hand, Bendel Insurance reached the second preliminary round, but failed to get past former champions RS Berkane 3-2 on aggregate.

At the moment, Nigeria’s sole representative are Rivers United, who are currently campaigning in the group stage of the CAF Confederation Cup.
