Carabao Cup: Iheanacho to battle Liverpool to the finish

Super Eagles and Leicester City forward Kelechi Iheanacho has declared operation fight to the finish ahead of Wednesday’s Carabao Cup clash with Liverpool. The senior man who has been dubbed FA Cup specialist because of his tendency to hit target in virtually every FA cup outing, told the foxes opponents to prepare for war in the third round fixtures adding that the Anfield landlords will be underrating the visitors at their own peril.

“We’re excited,” the Nigeria international told the club’s official website.

“We know what Anfield is like. It’s a great atmosphere there. We’re not going there for the atmosphere, we’re going there to compete.

“We played them in pre-season and we’re in a good place now. We’re winning games. It’s a cup game, but we know what they’re like. They’re a strong side, they’ve been doing well this season in the Premier League.

“They’re going to be strong for us, but we need to really work hard to get the win. Hopefully we’ll do that so let’s see what comes out of that. They press really well. We have to be careful of that as well.

“We’ll try to give them a game, but we know they’re a strong side.”

Liverpool will be the favourites heading into the contest, but the former Man city man insists if the Reds are to win, it will not come on a platter.

Iheanacho and his international teammate, Wilfred Ndidi scored in Leicester City’s 2-0 win against Burton Albion in the previous round.

Leicester City top Championship table having started the new season in fine form, winning seven of eight league fixtures and safely emerging past Burton Albion and Tranmere Rovers in the Carabao Cup.

Jürgen Klopp’s Liverpool, on the other hand, have tasted victories in their last six outings in all competitions.

They’re second in the Premier League, only two points adrift of champions Manchester City, after an impressive start of their own to 2023/24.
