Carragher reveals interesting Leicester City theory

Jamie Carragher reckons Leicester City’s tough-looking Premier League run-in could end up working in their favour.

Leicester came from behind to beat Crystal Palace 2-1 at the King Power Stadium on Monday night.

Second-half strikes from Timothy Castagne and Kelechi Iheanacho secured the points for Brendan Rodgers’ men.

The result gave City a huge boost in their bid to clinch a top-four finish this season and qualify for the Champions League.

The third-placed Foxes followed up their 3-0 win over West Bromwich Albion and now have a seven-point lead over fifth-placed West Ham United, with five games to go.

Then that leaves Manchester United (2nd), Tottenham (7th) and Chelsea (4th), who they also face in the FA Cup final.

Carragher thinks leaving three tricky fixtures until last could provide an opportunity to finish the job early.

“I think Leicester just needed to win the games they were supposed to win, and they’ve done that in the past couple of games,” the former Liverpool defender told Sky Sports.

“Everyone is looking at the last three games of the season – they’re looking at them – and sometimes when you have tough games at the end of the season, it works in your favour, that you don’t need it.

“At the moment, it’s looking like Leicester may not need those three games at the end of the season.

“If those games were actually coming right now, that might give Leicester a problem going into those last two or three games, maybe against teams they were supposed to beat.

“But maybe the fixture list might just fall in their favour in that way.

“But they deserve to be in it – I really do believe that. It’s not been an easy season for anyone, with (no) crowds, the injuries Leicester had at the start of the season, and their home form as well, similar to Everton and Liverpool, who have struggled at home as well.
