Top-ranked Norwegian tennis player Casper Ruud has announced his withdrawal from the Tokyo Olympics.
Ruud, who is enjoying a career-high of No. 15 in the world, hasn’t closed the doors on representing Norway at the Olympics in the future.
Ruud, who is coming off a big clay season, will look to represent his country at the 2024 Paris Olympics. “Many people are wondering about my Olympics participation, so here is an update from me,” Ruud said in a statement posted on his Facebook page.
“After the French Open, there have been a few days in the thinking box and after careful assessment with my team, we have come to the conclusion that there will be no Tokyo Olympics on me. “I’m still pretty young and both believe and hope I can participate in more Olympics in my career.
My focus will be participation in 2024 in Paris. I’ll try to take new steps in the next few years so I can fight for the medals there. “I wish all Norwegian participants good luck and hope for great Norwegian achievements.”
