Cheers! as Ndidi, Ricardo,Soyuncu, Castagne return for Leicester City

Leicester City fans are in a joyous mood as the club confirmed the return of Nigeria’s Wilfred Ndidi, Ricardo Pereira, and Caglar Soyuncu from injury in this week’s Europa League tie against Zorya Luhansk.

The club manager, Brendan Rodgers confirmed that Doctors had certified them fit to play again after months of recuperation.

For Ricardo, the match will represent his first senior competitive outing in nearly nine months since damaging his cruciate ligament in a 4-0 win over Aston Villa in March.

Meanwhile, Ndidi and Soyuncu have been out with adductor tears since September and October respectively.

All three have been in training for a few weeks, while Ricardo eased his way back in with a run-out for City’s Under-23s last Monday, a 2-1 win over West Ham.

But now they have an opportunity to return to action proper, with a win at Zorya sealing top spot for City in their Europa League group.

Rodgers said after the 2-1 defeat to Fulham, and ahead of the trip to Ukraine: “We’re hopeful that Ricardo will play, Wilf will play, and we’re hopeful Cags can play as well, so that will be a huge boost for us, these guys coming back.

“It will really help us. They’re top players.”

Once the trio have made their returns, that will leave City with just two players on the sidelines: Timothy Castagne and Daniel Amartey.

Rodgers has suggested he will be assessed ahead of Sunday’s trip to Sheffield United.

He said: “I don’t think Timothy will be ready for that game (against Zorya), but we’ll see where he’s at at the end of the week. He’s making good progress.”

Amartey suffered a serious hamstring injury in the defeat to West Ham in October and he is yet to return to training, with no date indicated for his return.
