Chelsea can turn the table – Chukwuemeka

England youth international of Nigerian descent Carney Chukwuemeka is hoping Chelsea’s win over Manchester United in a Premier League game on Thursday can give the Blues a big boost in the business end of the season.

In a dramatic game at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea secured a win thanks to the heroics of Cole Palmer who completed his hat-trick during stoppage time after the Blues surrendered a two-goal advantage earlier in the game.

Chukwuemeka played a part in the victory, hopping off the bench to replace Moisés Caicedo with around 20 minutes of normal time left.

The former Aston Villa wonderkid played his first game since after March’s international break after recovering from a knock that kept him out of the matchday squad against Burnley.

Chukwuemeka won the corner kick that led to the decisive goal of the match when his shot that nearly went in was deflected out for a corner.

Speaking to Chelsea’s official website, Chukwuemeka said: “It’s a big lift. Of course, we wanted to win the Burnley game, but we drew. Now we have gone and beat Manchester United at home so it’s a big lift going into some big games coming up this month.

“That was the goal going into the season – to be back in Europe for next season and to win a trophy. We now have two big opportunities to do so.

“We will keep working hard to achieve that. We just now have to focus on the training sessions going into the next game.”

Chukwuemeka has struggled with injuries this campaign, limiting his appearances to ten in all competitions, with only two of those being starts.
