He spent the second half of last season on loan at German second division club Paderborn, where he played 13 times for the club.

Now, however, Humphreys will move to the Liberty Stadium, where he will wear number 33, after Swans rebuffed interest from Stoke City.

The defender was part of the England Under-19 squad that won the European Championships in 2022 and also played in the FIFA U-20 World Cup this summer

The Blues have secured the player’s long-term future with a new four-year deal, with a further 12-month option included for the much-loved defender.

Stoke, who beat Rotherham 6-1 in their Carabao Cup victory in midweek, were keen to bolster their defensive options, with Swansea hoping to snap up Josh Tymon before the deadline expires.

The Potters have had a mixed start to their Championship campaign, with three wins and two losses in their first five matches.
