Chelsea set to withdraw from European Super League

Chelsea are set to pull out of the European Super League after fans turned up in their hundreds to protest outside of Stamford Bridge.

Furious supporters held placards and threw sticks of celery ahead of the clash with Brighton on Tuesday.

It is believed Chelsea are preparing legal documentation to withdraw from the hugely controversial break-away competition, which has been widely condemned.

If they do pull out, they will be the first of the 12 leading clubs who announced plans to form the Super League on Sunday.

The decision follows angry scenes outside the ground where supporters were determined to make their voices heard.

One sign read: “Do the right thing Roman”Another simply read: “RIP Chelsea”.

Fans had used social media to mobilise after Sunday’s controversial announcement.

It will give hope to supporters of the other ‘big six’ Premier League sides, who have joined up with the venture.

Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham are also part of the breakaway, along with Real Madrid, Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, Juventus, AC Milan and Inter Milan.
