Chlelsea planning move for Flamengo forward Pedro

Chelsea are pondering over  making an approach for Flamengo forward Pedro.

Despite their recent improvements over the last three fixtures, the Blues have not always impressed in the final third this season.

Armando Broja failed to impress before being loaned out to Fulham, Christopher Nkunku has missed the majority of the campaign through injury and Nicolas Jackson is now sometimes used as a winger.

To Jackson’s credit, he now has seven goals and three assists in the Premier League this campaign, the most recent of the latter helping Chelsea earn a 1-1 draw at Manchester City on Saturday evening.

Nevertheless, the Senegal international has missed enough big chances throughout the season to suggest that he will not be viewed as Chelsea’s long-term main man down the middle.

Although there has been constant talk of a move for Napoli’s Victor Osimhen, it remains to be seen whether Chelsea are able to afford the Nigeria international’s £111m release clause.

Co-owners Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital are under pressure to balance the books before June 30, when they must ensure that Chelsea meet all Premier League financial regulations.

According to Brazilian media outlet O Dia, as per Fichajes, Chelsea may decide to make a move for Pedro as an alternative to Osimhen.

The 26-year-old is regarded as one of the best homegrown players still currently plying their trade in Brazil, his performances leading to six caps being earned for his country.

Since 2020, a total of 107 goals and 23 assists have been contributed from 221 appearances, and he can count a Brazilian league title and Copa Libertadores trophy among the silverware that he has won while representing the Rubro-Negro.

With Pedro holding a contact until 2027, Flamengo are in a strong position to retain his services, yet the report suggests that Chelsea would try to secure a deal for €25m (£21.36m).

Chelsea are no strangers to doing business with Brazilian clubs under Boehly and Clearlake Capital with Andrey Santos, Angelo and Deivid Washington all joining over the past 14 months from either Vasco Da Gama or Santos.

That said, the trio are viewed as players for the future, unlike Pedro who would be expected to hit the ground running should Chelsea opt to try to acquire his services ahead of 2024-25.
