Cloudy doubt surrounds Lampard’s Norwich move

Frank Lampard has suffered a blow in his fight to be named the new Norwich City manager as one other candidate reportedly impressed during their interview. The Chelsea legend has been strongly linked with the job since Daniel Farke’s sacking on Saturday.

Norwich parted ways with the German after three years having struggled since their return to the Premier League.

The Canaries had failed to win in 20 top-flight fixtures in a run that extended into the backend of their last Premier League term, the 2019-20 season. That included 16 consecutive defeats.

Farke led his side to two Championship title successes, including last term. However, his woeful start to this season has cost the 45-year-old his job.

He was sacked in slightly bizarre circumstances, though, with Norwich announcing his departure just two hours after they had ended their disastrous run.

The former Borussia Dortmund II head coach had just overseen a 2-1 victory over Brentford when he was informed of his departure.
