Conf Cup: Ousted Rivers United return set for SS derby

 

Rivers United breezed into the country on Tuesday from Tanzania after failing in their bid to progress to the semi-finals of the CAF Confederation Cup.  The pride of Rivers played out a goalless draw in Dar-es-Salaam on Sunday against Young Africans after losing the first leg 2-0 at home.

The second leg tie was equally a bitter pill as the team’s bus was vandalised and valuable items stolen.  Die-hard lovers of the Continental championship have called on CAF to up their game to ensure maximum security for teams on one hand and improved officiating on the other. Despite losing out however the Garden City side thanked their supporters for being part of the journey so far, while informing that they are safely back to base.

“Back to base, we touched down at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport Lagos from Dar es Salaam on board Ethiopian Air at 12:43pm Nigerian time on Tuesday” the club informed.

With the CAF Confederation cup now in the past the Stanley Eguma tutored side will now be looking forward to the next league tie against Bayelsa United.

In the last three league matches before the Confederation cup two legged ties, Rivers United won one, lost one and drew one against Dakkada, Lobi Stars and Niger Tornadoes respectively.
