Conf Cup Qtrs 2nd leg: Enyimba in search of miracle of Conakry

 

Confederation cup campaigners Enyimba will be searching for miracle when they file out against Horoya of Guinea in the second leg of the quarterfinals on Sunday.

The peoples Elephant missed ample opportunity to make the second leg mere formality when they settled for a 1-1 draw at the Aba Township Stadium last Sunday.

Although Enyimba showed signs of readiness to carry the day in the match, shooting into the lead as early as the 18th minute thanks to Augustine

Oladapo, the two time Champions League winners however lost steam afterwards.

Visiting Horoya who kept the fighting spirit on, got the much needed reward for their effort in the 71st minute to level up thanks to Boniface who converted a timely assist from teammate and Zimbabwean import Tafadzwa Kutinyu.

Horoya who also had Nigeria’s Bolaji Sarkin on parade then held their grounds to ensure that the tie ended in a draw.

There is no doubt that the battle of Conakry will be tough for Enyimba as Horoya will be throwing in every arsenal in their armory into the game while riding on the back of home support.

Some analysts believe only a miracle of Conakry can catapult the Nigerian side into the semifinals.

In other first leg matches played last week, Pyramids of Egypt proved their quest for semifinal place with 3-0 victory against Zanaco in Lusaka, Hassania Agadir had a 5-0 cruise control against Al-Nasr in Cairo while Al Masry and RSB Berkane settled for a 2-2 draw.

Interestingly Nigeria’s duo of Emeka Eze and Austin Amutu who were in action for Al Masry will equally be doubling effort as they attempt to turn the table away to RSB Berkane.
